SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING

Social Emotional Learning has become an integral part of schools. In my current position as SEL Coordinator, I focus on the social emotional learning of both the students and the staff. I use the 5 SEL competencies in conjunction with the PBIS Initiative to create a positive climate and culture for students and staff.

In an effort to align social emotional learning and 21st Century Skills, I created this Kindergarten lesson based on CASEL’s Social Emotional Learning Competencies and Battelle for Children’s P21 Framework 21st Century Skills. The Grid shows how the Kindergarten curricular standards align for use in a dual-purpose lesson.

As social emotional learning is now considered an integral part of most schools, it is important that all people know its value. This is a paper I wrote advocating for Social Emotional Learning, Character Education, and/or Social Emotion Character Development in Schools.

A focus in many schools has become teaching the “whole child”. This is a project I completed explaining whole-child learning trough social emotional and character development. It also includes history of social emotional learning, character education, and social emotional character development.

OHIO IMPROVEMENT PROCESS

As a trained Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) Facilitator, I have a thorough understanding of this Leadership Development Framework. I have been a member of each of the collaborative structures in this framework including the District Leadership Team (DLT), Building Leadership Team (BLT), and Teacher-Based Team (TBT).  I designed this OIP PowerPoint as a guide when I delivered professional development to staff members emphasizing that the goal of the OIP is to have staff share the responsibility for improving student achievement.

LEADER IN ME

The Leader In Me Initiative was started at Bucyrus Elementary School approximately 5 years ago.  The year before that, staff members in the school delved into a book study of “The Leader In Me” by Stephen R. Covey.  The following is a reflection of my experiences in reading the book.

Bucyrus Elementary has hosted several leadership days over the past 5 years.  I had a large part in the organization of the leadership days.  Below are documents that I prepared to help in the facilitation of these days.
